A Walk with a Cause - A Walk for Climate Justice

Along this long Walk (313kms on 12th Day ) we met with so many people, so many cultures and so many  new stories to tell. These are the typical essence of the Sub-Continent and the Western Ghats which is the land of surprises and variety. The walk slowly moved from Mountains to Plains. We are now at the place which gave birth to a new World, the Malnad. We are in Talakaveri, the birth place of the Southern Ganges- the River Cauvery.

The river here has given birth to a beautiful civilization, The Malnad which is rich in its cultural and environmental heritage. The place is encroaching a wide variant species of plants and animals and the people here worship the gift of mother Earth from Centuries.

The people here have never really harmed the Eco-system they leave in but still facing the consequences of vital climate change. The farmers/planters here depend on mansoon rains but it has been greatly affected by the global climate change caused by industries (a major part from developed countries).

They are facing unseasonal heavy rains and unprecedented drought due to these climate changes. They are also snatched from the basic needs they deserve. The are leaving there tough life and with that a new burden of Climate change is killing them. All they need now is a Climate Justice. A resolution which calm the heat of climate change and save them.

As a first step against the odds and injustice, we have started our Walk and from this we intend to send a clear message to our leaders in The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 7th Session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (CMP7) in Durban, South Africa.

In this tough walk, we are been accompanied by Mr. Pushpanath ‘Push’ Krishnamurthy  supported by Karnataka Growers' Federation (KGF), an organisation with 80K+ active members in it spread all over the coffee growing regions of Karnataka, Centre for Social Markets (CSM) and a lot of Organizations which care for Climate justice.

We need the summit to take bold decisions which bring positive changes among the people who are affected by Climate change and to save the rich and green  hillocks and plains of Western Ghats.
